THE CITY ASSESSMENT.
To the Editor of the Globe. Sib, —I am never very willing to obtrude myself or my affairs upon the attention of the public, but it really docs seem to be necessary to my professional reputation that I should request permission to state distinctly through your colums that I am in noway whatever responsible for the action taken by the City Council in respect of the late assessment. I was, as it happened, away at Dunedin when it became necessary to decide upon the course to bo pursued, and the necessary steps were all taken without my being consulted. All I have had to do with it has beeq to make the best fight I could for the Council afterwards. Yours, Ac., CHAB. J. FOSTER. Christchurch, April 29th.
