MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Saturday, April 27. [Before G-. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M ] Larceny of a Swag.—David Q-rey was charged with stealing a swag belonging to H. Jones. The prosecutor hud been in the bar of (he White Hart Hotel about nine o’clock the previous evening, and left the svrag on the seat. Accused was there, and after prosecutor had finished speaking to a friend of his he looked round and missed both his swag and the man. The swag produced web the one stolen from him. Detective Walker stated that ho arrested the aecusedj fib 8.30 that morning carrying the swag now in Court, and walking in the direction of the Papanui road. When arrested he said that the man who owned it was his mate, and they were both going into the country to work together. Several previous convictions for larceny were proved against accused, and he was sentenoed to six months’ imprisonment, with hard labor. Protection Order.—Mrs Louise Munday obtained a protection order against her husband, Daniel L. Munday, who was at present in Wellington, and had not contributed towards her support for some time past.
