Friday, April 2G. A meeting of the Board of Health was held after the meeting of the Drainage Board, at which were present Mr Boss (m the chair), and Messrs Hobbs, Duncan, and Wright. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. inspector’s report. The following report from the inspector was read 1. I beg to report that the outlet pipes from cesspool or premises of Mr Peacock, St. Alban’s lane, have been removed in conformity with notice. 2. Acting under the advice of the solicitor to the Board, I have suggested to Mr King, candlomnker, the adoption of the method used by Mr Hancock at his works for preventing effluvium, before laying a second informa ion against him. 3. The adjourned case against Mr W. Wilson was called on on the 25th ult. In reply to the Conrt I stated that Mr Wilson had continued the work of filling up the hole on his laud, Barbour street, but could not say it was filled sufficiently to prevent water lying there in future. The case was again adjourned, Mr Wilson to continue the work in the meantime. 4. Complaint having been made under clause SS of the Act against Mr Dennis, Hewit’s road, for keeping pigs so as to be a nuisance or injurious to health, I have served notice on him under clause 59, which will expire on the 29th instant. I desire instructions for further proceedings under clause 60, if approved by the Board. 5. In regard to complaint against Mr Archer for keeping pigs, I have served the necessary notice, which has been complied with. 6. Cesspools of a very objectionable character exist in premises of bt. Alban’s school. As the difficulty experienced in getting the services of nightmen has prevented the adoption cjf the nan system, I have suggested nfieans for overcoming the difficulty, winch I have reason to believe will be acted upon. y. Several persons in the Borough of Sydenham would avail themselves of the services of tho uigntman, I have brought this matter to the notice of the Borough Council. 8. I have been engaged inspecting from bouse to house Hewitt’s road, Andover street, Irwin street, Eastrick’s Lane, in the Southern suburbs of the city. 9' The side drain on one side of St. A lbap’s Lane is in foul condition, and reouß.es immediate attention. W. Pearce, Chief inspector. The paragraphs of the report were considered seriatim. In discussing paragraph 7 the Hoard expr-- sed a decided opinion in favor of -the advisability of introducing the pan 'system into Sydenham as so n as possible, and forming a Central Board of Health for the city and outlying districts. It was resolved that a circular letter on the subject of health regulations should be sent to the various local Boards. The report as q whole was adopted. HEALTH STATISTICS OV NEW ZEALAND. A letter was read from the Colonial Secretary's oflicOj referring tliO to the New Zealand Qazotto” for health statistics of Now Zealand. The secretary was instructed to write, requesting that tho “ Gazette” should be forwarded to tbo Board. Letters complaining of a nuisance at St. Albans were received. The Board having transacted some routine business, adjourned.
