The earlier sale was conducted by Mr J. T. Mat-ion at Tattersall’s, and those later in the clay by Mr C. F. Barlu r, Messrs J. T. Ford and Co., and Mr F. C. Tabart, at Mr E. W. Millett’s new Repository, late Skating Rink. Whatever the reason may have been, but few purchases were made at any of the sales. At that of Messrs Matson and Co. The ( hief brought 100 guineas; and Mousetrap 275 guineas. Proceedings were opened by Mr Barker at the Repository with Micelle, who fell to the nod of Mr John Lunn for 70 guineas Standard Be rer was the next to enter the ring, and was purchased by Mr A. H. Role-ton for 120 guineas; the same buyer also purchased Atalantaat 130 guineas. Psyche, the foal from A talantn, by Anteros became the property of Mr J, Gilligan, for 37 guineas. York, ’ho < lurap.-igne favorite, was the next on the list of Mr Barker’s lots, and ovey him there was some brisk competition. Ho finally fell to the nod ox Mr D. O’B ien for 33i)'guineas. Mr Ray’s string were submitted, but were passed ini” Mr O Brien’s lot were next off rod, and toaeso Luna was the placed, being purchased by HV M- H. Oi*am tor 240 gmniws. Eclipse, sot

like thrir owner’s expectations, were passed in. Mr W. C. Webb’s string were next submitted to competi ion. Only three put in an appearance, and the first of these, a filly—own sister to Templeton-was pas-ed in at 270 guineas. Wrangler and Undine in tm-n entered the rimi, but were both unsuccessful in realising the re serves, the former being passed t 190 guineas and the latter at 1 0. Totara was the next on the list, and by slow degrees Mr Barker managed to send Irm up to 600 guineas, b it Mr Powell was obdurate, and he went bach to his stall without changing hi-* owner. Old Sir Tatton, the veteran hurdle r icer, found a purchaser in Mr D. O’Brien for 100 guineas. Mr Barker now vacated the rostrum in favor of Mr C. Newton, who proceeded to offer the Aliddle Park yearlings. Of these the fir*t so d was the Traducer —Opera fil y, whi -h realised 150 guineas, Air J. Brabazon being the purchaser. ho Cst way —Mos Rose_ filly came next, and, after a very brief stay in the ring, fell to Mr O. F. Todhuntor for 59 guineas. Mr Redwood bought the Albany—Red Bose filly for 35 guineas, and the Castaway—Patricienne colt found an owner in Mr Douglas for 30 guineas. The Aliddle Park Comuany certainly deserve credit for the way in which they dispose of their youngst-rs. 'they do not fix enormouriy high reserve prices upon them. 1 ut the youngs’ers are put up for what they will fetch, a course which the Company has always ad e cd to, and oue which it would be well if oth r breeders would imitate in t ales which are advertise t to be without reserve. The prices obtained for the Middle Park lot yesterday were not large, but no doubt, as their breeding c mc-s to be belter known nod appreciated, higher prices will ba tbe result. The next lots submitted were those owned by Kitvhing and Co., including Atlantic, Oberou, and Mountaineer The whole three were purchased by Mr Kitcbing himself, and brought respectively ns f.ll'ws : —Atlintic, 24 * guineas; Oberon, 260 ; and Mountaineer, 180 guineas. Mr L Walker became tbe pur baser of a very useful two-year-old fi ly, by ■ astaway, out of a C* dric rna e Mr Barker once more bee .me tbe salesman, but buyers were scarce, and the only iot in Mr Barker’s second innings was a two year o d filly by Barbarian o it of h Peer mare, which was purchase ; by Mr Grant for 40 guineas.
