SPORTING.

• ♦ AUCKLAND EASTER MEETING-. [Br Telegraph.] [from OUR AUCKLAND CORRESPONDENT.] Auckland, April 17. The sporting contributor “Auger,” in the “ Star,” says re Easter races : —Putting Resolution on one side, Pugawerewere heads the Easter Handicap. Considering this mare won the Dunedin Cup, as a three-year-old, with 6st lOlbs, and that the company she will now get is scarcely the same as she has been accustomed to, I cannot say that I think her chance, with Bst 71bs, despicable. Hippo is well backed in doubles, but I have good authority for saying he is not within 71bs of his Christmas form. Elsa is in excellent condition, never been better, and the stable are confident. Isaac Walton is as good a favorite as anything, but it is hard to get over the fact he has never managed to get two miles. The partisans of the Don and Magician, I believe, are well in it. Xantippe is scarcely likely to be started against Pungawerewere. The present fancies for the Easter Handicap are Elsa and Punga. The following quotations are fairly reliable, but straight out betting feeble. Doubles are brisk. EASTER HANDICAP. 3 to 1 agst Isaac Walton 3to 1 Hipno 4to 1 The Dion oto 1 - Magician 9to 2 Elsa sto 1 Xantippe STEEPLECHASE. 2 to 1 agst Perfume 3to 1 Don Juan 3to 1 Butcher Boy 7to 2 Loafer sto 1 Sportsman DOUBLES —EASTER HANDICAP AND STEEPLE-.
