THE HUM OF INDUSTRY.
Two men and a boy were walking along John R. street yesterday when one of them —t' s e father of the boy—said : ' I low pleasant; to my eara is this hum of industry J* •So it is to mine,' replied the other, and when the boy got a chance he a-ked : • Fathtr. did you mean that pounding back there?' ' Yes my son,' was the answer. That e.venu g as the father was seated in his evening chair, he heard an awful pouncing in the krchen, and r ehed in to see his son belaboring a chair with a hammer ' What on eartn doss this mean?' he shrieked at the la'. 'The hum of father,' was the pleasant rep'y. The boy was hummed out o' that so fast that it was over, an hour before heoou'd compose him-elf to softly inquire of his inner consciousness ; " Waq father lying to that man, or is night a bad time for the hum of industry V
