[PEH PKESS AGENCY.] Atjckxand, April 2. Sir G. Grey has gone to ivawau for a few days to recruit; his health. The Alburnia mine has declared a dividend of 5s per share. The Governor will shortly visit the Hot Lakes at Rotorua. A meeting of the South British Insurance Company will be held on Monday. The directors will recommend a dividend of 15 per cent, per annum. Wellington, April 2. At the Supreme Court to-day, Jacobsen, alias Count Mouravieff, was tried for obtaining money by false pretences. There were two separate charges. Prisoner was defended by Mr Barton. He was found guilty, and sentence deferred. Frederick Cattling, for indecent assault upon a young girl at the Lower Hutt, was found guilty and remanded for sentence. The Grand Jury threw out the bill against AValter Ackenden for robbery. A test was made of the water at the waterworks to-day, and it was found that at halfpaßt nine this morning there was 12ft. 9in. in the new reservoir. At half-past two there was only 12ft. The engineer of the waterworks finds on testing the volume of the stream that supplies the reservoir, that the engines, hydraulic lifts, and the machinery at present in use in Wellington would absorb the entire amount, leaving none for domestic purposes. The total number of acres of the Ardington estate, sold last week, was 9456, which realised £42,600, or an average of little over £4 10s an acre, including the township, the suburban sections, and the rural land. The township of Wanstead included 33 acres, that brought £1216, or £37 3s per acre; suburban sections, 43 acres, £304; and the rural lands, 9380 acres, £40,990, or an average of £47 3s per acre. Many of the lots have been changing hands since the sale at higher figures. Hokitika, April 2. The trial of Ryan for murder was on all day. Five witnesses were examined, namely, Mrs Daniels (wife of Daniels, supposed to he murdered), Walter Daniels (son of sam ; >),and W. G-alvin (who identified Daniels's watch), also Peter G-ourdie (who identified the body), and Mary Downie. The evidence was much the same as that given in the Magistrate's Court, but a few stronger points of evidence have been elicited. The trial is likely to last three or four days more. There are still about twentv witnesses to be examined.
