Fraser would not divide the Board upon this appointment, but wished to express his regret that a gentleman of experience os a Canterbury farmer had not been appointed, He thought that what the Board wanted was not so much a lecturer to go about the country, as a man of experience who could present a reliable balance-sheet at the end of every year, and show how the business of a farm could be profitably conducted. The various lecturers of the Board could attend to the purely scientific point. Mr Tosswill said that the committee were at one with Mr Fraser on the point referred to. It was only in view of the fact of no local man who had applied proving eligible that the committee had recommended Mr Ivey, who, however, was in everyway a most suitable candidate.
