ROAD BOARDS.
HEATHOOTE. The above Board met on Thursday, March 21st. All the members present. The clerk reported the receipts for the fortnight to be £B7O 18s Id, including tho balance of subsidy due on rates collected. The works committee reported on various matters, and their report was adopted. It was resolved to cull for tenders for metal for the Ferry road, also for raising the office. Correspondence was read and considered—From Mr J. O'Niel re Charjesworth road. To stand over. From Mr H. H. Loughnan re Sumner road. To bp informed that as soon as the roads are formed, claved, and dedicated, the Board will take the control of them. From Mr M. Milburn. Deferred till next meeting. From Mr J. H. Hopkins re drain in front of his premises, offering to contribute towards cost of piping. Ordered to be done on the terms mentioned in his letter. From Mr J. A. Graham re contract for Lyttolton and Sumner road. The contract to continue in force for 12 months longer. From the Colonial Treasurer, advising of payment into bank. From Mr E. C. J. Stevens re drainage from his premises. The clerk to see Mr Stevens and arrange. The Selwyn County Council re recreation reserves. The clerk to forward letter to Hon. G. Buckley and inform the chairman Selwyn County Council. From same re cemeteries/The Board recommend that if possible reserve No. 107 should be secured. From the Board of Education re opening Smith's road to Canal reserve. To bo informed that the Board will take control of the road if the samo is formed and dedicated. From Hillsborough school'coiqmittee and Mr J. H. Stringer, asking that yoad on south side of school be formed. Deferred for the present. Petition from Woclston, asking that footpath be made from Smith's road to St. John's road. Resolved to make a foot pith from Hargood's to St. John's road. From Mr W. H. Wynn Williams re obstruction at Sumner. The clerk to write tq tho person causing the same. A tender was accepted for shingljng the HiUa road and Colombo road. Accounts amounting to £387 10a Jd were ordered to be paid. COURT], NAY, The Road Board met on March 18th. Present —Hon. Col. Brett (chairman), Messrs Mathias, Coutts, and Adams. The following letters were read;—Two from the Secretary to the Treasury, advising the Board of the payment of the sum of hvZ'-\ 10s 8d and £177 :{>'to their credit with the Bank of Australasia, From the clerk of the Assessment 'Court, stating day appointed for hearing objections to the valuation roll. From the Templeton Road Board respecting the formation of a boundary road. The surveyor was instructed to advertise this with ot her works. From Mr Cuthbert, in reply to Board's letter of ]3th December, 1877, asking for information with regard to road formation in the vicinity of the goods Bheds at the different railway stations in the district. The surveyor to forward the information as soon as possible. From the New Zealand Insurance Company respecting insurance of cottages. _ Resolved, that the cottages be re-insured with the same company. Tenders for the various works previously advertised for were then opened and one accepted in each case, the same to be advertised. The surveyor was instructed to advertise for tenders for further works. The pay-sheet, amounting to' £<}oß 10a |od, having been adopted and pasaed, the Board adjourned.
