BOARD OF HEALTH.

The Board of Health sat after the conclusion of the meeting of the Drainage Board. Present —Messrs Boss (chairman), Hobbs, Hall, Duncan, and Harman. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. STATISTICS. The secretary was instructed to write to the

Board of Health, asking him to furnish to the Boord -tatis'i'a of the health of New Zealand as publi-hei in the Government “ Gazette.” INSPECTOR OF NUISANCES REPORT. The inspector’s report was read as follows : 1. I beg to report that the nuisance complained of by Rev. Mr Clinton arising from the waste water from an artesian well on premises adjoining the church at Phillipstown has been abated. 2. I have made a further inspection of the drainage on premises of Mr Peacock, St. Alban’s lane. I find a pipe formerly existed which conveyed the rainfall from the house through the closet, and thence into the drain which is led into St. Alban’s creek, and that the outlet pipe still exists; there is a cesspool below this pipe of considerable dimensions which is not allowed to fill up to the level of it. I suggested to Mr Peacock as no use was to he made of the pipe it might be removed. He replied that be did not consider it necessary. 3. Whilst inspecting at Waltham, I observed a quantity of stagnant water to he lying in that portion of Jackson’s Creek into which flows the drainage from Mr Inues’ brewery. I purpose giving notice to Mr Junes ro lay pipes into the drain on the Gasworks road, if the Board approve of my doing so. _ ... 4.. I cannot report that the alterations and additions made by Mr King to his soap and candle works, Addington, are effectual in abating the nuisance complained of by the inhabitants, and from enquiries I have made from house to house it was stated without exception that the effluvia from the premisses was as bad as ever it had been. Therefore, a further information will requiie to be laid, if approved bv the Board. 5. The spot indicated by Mr Dale for the establishment of a fellmongery business is isolated from houses, the nearest being that occupied by Mr who makes no objection. 6. I have been engaged inspecting from house to house, Avouside and neighborhood. Wm. Pearce, Chief Inspector of Nuisances. The report was considered paragraph by paragraph, and the inspector was instructed to require Messrs Peacock and Inti is to take the necessary steps for abating the nuisances complained of. On the 4th paragraph the inspector was instructed to take out a fresh information against Mr King. In connection with the sth paragraph, A letter from Mr W. Dale was read. It requested permission to construct a culvert across the Heathcote river at a spot about 50 chains above the Steam Wharf, for the purpose of drain.ng wool works to be known as the Airedale Woolworks, at any depth down to'low water mark. A letter of a later date requested power to make arrangements for wool scouring similar to those in use at other establishments on the river. The Board resolved to make no objections. i WALTHAM. A letter was read calling attention to a nuisance at Waltham. The inspector raid he had attended to the matter. INFECTIOUS DISEASES. The number of infectious diseases reported since last meeting was as follows : —Typhoid fever, 4 ; scarlet fever, 2; low fever, 3; and scarlatina, 3. This concluded the business.
