INIEEPROYIHOIAIi. [PBB PBESS AGENCY.] Dunedin, March 19, Messrs Cargill, Gibb’s and Co. have received the following telegram from Messrs Schwartz and Co.! —“Loudon, 13th instant. —With reference to wool sales there is less animation. Prices for fleece and greasy wools show an average decline of a to ald per lb, compared with the opening rates of the present series. Ihe bulk of scoured wools sells steadily. Prices for cross-bred show an average rise of a Id per lb compared with the closing rates of last series.” La whence, March 19. The Lawrence annual races commenced yesterday. The weather was wretched. Owing to the continued wet weather the course was in a filthy state, causing slow time to be made. For the Maiden Plate four started. Mr Shaw’s Spay won with ease. Three faced the starter for the Jockey Club Handicap, of 60 govs, namely, Oberon, Chancellor, and Glengarry. After an exciting race Oberon passed the post two lengths in advance of Chancellor, who was first favorite. The District Handicap brought a field of five, but Alice proved too many for her opponents. Chancellor and Spay were the only horses which faced the starter for the Flying Handicap. The former won easily. The Hack Race fell to the lot of Romeo, who outpaced his companions, five in number. There is a likelihood of a good attendance to-day, the weather having broken.
