It then adjourned for a week. In the Assembly, Mr Berry gave notice ef a resolution to reform the Constitution. He proposes to replace the Coimcil by an Upper House. Mr Lyell made a personal explanation as to his efforts to effect a compromise. He read a memo, of a promised simultaneous action by both Houses. Mr Berry, to-morrow, will propose that the House adjourn till April 9th. INTERPROVINCIAL. [per press agency.] Dunedin, March 7. Mr Macandrew and Captain Fraser arrived overland last night. About sixty gentlemen met the Minister for Lands and gave three cheers. Sir G. Grey arrives to-morrow afternoon. A private meeting has been held relative to the reception of Sir G. Grey and party. Among proposals one agreed to is a public meeting in the theatre to-morrow, at which the Premier will give an address. A banquet is fixed for Saturday night. The “Times” declares that Sir G. Grey received a cool reception at Invercargill. Gisborne, March 7. The criminal prosecution against Lawrence and others in the late destruction of property case occupied the R.M. Court for the last two days. It is stated that forcible entry was clearly proved. The tenant swore he permitted the entry. The case was dismissed, the Magistrate recommending that proceedings be taken against both sides.
