PRESBYTERY OF CHRISTCHURCH.
A special meeting of the Presbytery of Christchurch was held in St. Andrew's Church Bchoolroom on Monday, 4th March, 1878, and was duly constituted with devotional exercises. Sederunt, Eev. Messrs Fraser (moderator pro. tern.), Cree, and McGregor (clerk). The circular calling a meeting of the Presbytery was read, as follows : —" Oxford, Ist March, 1878 —Dear Sir,—A special meeting of Presbytery will be held at St. Andrew's Church schoolroom, Christchurch, on Monday, 4th current, to consider call from Eumara to Eev. W. McGregor, Kaiapoi, and for other business.—Yours, truly, N. McCalLT/M, Moderator." It was unanimously resolved that the Moderator's conduct be approved. A letter of commission was laid on the table and read, from the congregation of Kumara to Mr Fraser, to act as their representative in the Presbytery of Christchurch, in re a call to the Eev. W. McGregor. Mr Fraser laid on the table the call from the congregation of Kumara, bearing 132 signatures. It was then unanimously resolved that notification of the same be made in due form to the congregations of Kaiapoi and Eangiora, on Sabbaths the lOlh and 17th inst., and that all parties be cited to appear for their interests at a meeting of Presbytery to bn held in the church, Kaiapoi, on Monday, 25th inst., at 2 p.m.; and that Mr Cree preside at meetings of congregations previous thereto, and cite all parties accordingly. Mr Cree applied, on behalf of his committee at Leeston, for consent, of the Vrenbytery to a sale of their church site and church at Leeston. The committee having received the offer of £7OO for the site and church thereon, consider it good, and that it would be an advantage to the congregation to accept the offer. A half-acre of land, conveniently situated, could be purchased for £6O, and a more suitable church could be built thereon for £650. On the application of the committeo of Leeston church, it w.>s resolved as follows : " That it shall be lawful for the trustees of the land situate at Leeston and the building thereon, at present occupied as a place of worship by the congregation of the said church resident in the Ellesmere district, and they are hereby recommended, to Bell and alienate the said parcel of land and building thereon for the purpose of providing another place of worship for behoof of the Presbyterian body in a more suitable situation within the said Ellesmere district." The meeting was closed with the Benediction.
