THE TIDE OF EMIGRATION.
We take the following from the “ Home News: The steady increase in recent years of the flow of emigration to the Australian colonies is likely to be yet further aided by the knowledge that the Canadian labor market is overstocked. Yery deplorable accounts are received of the condition of emigrants last arrived there. No employment is offered them, and they are starving. So great is the destitution that charitable people have organised an emigrants’ home, where, at least, the new arrivals may find the shelter of a roof during the bitter inclemencies of a Canadian winter. The glu* is not only in the agricultural labor market, but there is no work for skilled mechanics and uri-ans. As the Canadim Government has taken steps to warn intending emigrants of the deplorable state of affairs, it is obvious that an addi tionul impetus will thus be given to emigration elsewhere. It seems not improbable that ere Img the great (rads of rich country in the Far West, to which L ;rd Dufferin referred in such glowing terms, must, be opened up to new comers, but this territory cannot be made immediately available to relieve the present great pressure in the old districts of the Dominion
