SPORTING.

DUNEDIN RACES. TRAINING NOTES. [by telegraph.] [from our own correspondent.] Dunedin, February 27. Nearly all the horses were out this morning, but little work was done. Templeton and Titania went a mile and a half at half speed. Punga went once round slowly. Hippocampus walked, while Cloth of Gold went a short canter. The following are the betting quotations : DUNEDIN CUP. 2to 1 agst Hippocampus. sto 2 ngst Templeton. 4to 1 agst Ariel. 7to I agst Longlands. 100 to 10 agft Bribery. 100 to 10 agst Titania. 100 to 5 asst Oberon. 100 to 4 agst Luna. 100 to 3 agst Cloth of Gold. [from our special reporter.] Templeton has come up in the market, and is now first favorite. Titania and Ariel are also favorites. Templeton is fit and well, and Jooks likely to win the Cup. [fiom the special reporter of the press.] Dunedin, February 20. The last strong work previous to the meeting was done this morning. Ray commenced by o sending Punga twice round a good gallop. She seems none the worse for her mishap, and is expected after till te run a good mure. Templeton and Titania were sent together, (he first time round at a good pace, and the second a cracker. The old horse seemed to have a bit the best of it, and is much fancied. Cutts sent Bribery and Longlands together about two miles, travelling fast the last mile. Longlands is one of the best outsiders, while the mare scarcely seems herself. Artel went once round by himself, and was joined at the Stand by Trump Card, who took him along the last mile at a rattling pace. The old horse went well, and his backers are very confident. Trump seems_ fresh and well. Hippocampus, with Wattie up, was sent a couple of miles. French on Isaac Walton took him alongfor the firstmile at a good pace, when he dropped out, and Hippo, finished one by himself. Chancellor and Luna went the Cup distance fast, Xantippe joining in the last mile. Chancellor had the best of the finish home. Oberon went twice round, accompanied the last time by Atlantic. The former looks very well indeed, but I scarcely think it likely he will start for the Cup. Cloth of Gold went two miles by himself, but scarcely strikes one as looking like a winner. Shillelagh, with Powell np, went a couple of miles, and was afterwards taken over the hurdles by Pat McCoy, who will probably ride him. Dan O’Brien jumped old Sir Tatton, whom he is to pilot iu (.be Hurdle Race. The rest of the cross-country contingent did serviceable work. The present bettin" is much as follows : Hippo., Ariel, and Templeton are at virtually 3 to 1 each, the latter being the most enquired for. Titania and Longlands are next in favor at 100 to 12. Punga. 100 to 9 ; 100 to 5 for anything else. Final tips to-morrow.
