CRICKET.
THE INTERPEOVINCIAL MATCH.
[By Telegraph.]
FROM THE CORRESPONDENT THE PRESS.] Dunedin, February 19.
Eight of the team arrived after a calm passage from Oamaru at 2 a.m. Ncilson, Moore, and Stevens came overland, and got in about nooil. They had a good practice this morning and afternoon. The ground is in much worse condition than two seasons ago, having evidently been neglected, besides having had a great deal of play on it, as seven matches have been played at the some time. The “ Otago Daily Times’* says their*s is the weakest team played for many years, and prophesies that Canterbury will win the fifteenth match. As far as I can see they are short of good bowling, having only Glen and Austin to depend upon. Dixon, Paramour, Cargill, and McNeill are all bowlers of the moderate kind. In batting Spring, Clark, Dixon, and Paramour are their men. Against their own bowling two colts, Crawshaw and Haskell, showed a very strong defence, the latter can punish loose ones, especially to the off. Their fielding, I learn from a friend, is of the erratic nature, sometimes brilliant, and as often the reverse. Downes would have been in the eleven if he could have got leave. Spring has been elected captain.
