MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.

CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday, February 20. [Before G. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.] Drunkenness. —Two first offenders were each fined ss. The charge against Margaret Shannon, adjourned from the previous day, was dismissed.

LYTTELTON. Wednesday, February 20. [Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M.] Refusal of Duty. —F. Yates, Robert Cathcart, John Wilson, and James Dobbins, seamen, were charged by Captain Carey, of the barque Glencoe, with disobedience of orders. Mr H. N. Nalder appeared in support of the charge. Dobbins was also charged with using threatening language. The Bench sentenced Yates, Cathcart, and Wilson to fourteen days, and Dobbins six weeks’ hard labor.

Civil Cases. —Baker v Kelly, claim £7 Bs, and possession of tenement; judgment for plaintiff for £1 12s; defendant ordered to give up possession. D’Authrtau v G. Sullivan, claim £2 17s lOd ; judgment for £1 19s 4d and costs 9s. Lyttelton Gas Company v Gibbons, claim £1 0s- 5d ; Mr Nalder appeared for plaintiffs ; judgment for amount claimed and costs 9s, and solicitor ’s fee £1 Is.
