[from the correspondents of the press'] A keen sou’-wester was blowing this morning ; but tho meeting being so near, almost all the horses wero working. Ray’s were the first out, and Templeton was sent three times round outside tho hurdles in head clothing. Pungawcrewere stripped, went with him the first two rounds, and Titania stripped the second and third rounds. Tho trio looked the picture of health, and did a good gallop, although not very fast, tho time for the last two circuits being 4min, 35sec. Hippo and Isaak Walton were on the course to day, and tho former with a rug on went twice round outside the hurdles. He seemed to labor a little, and from tho noise he made one would think his wind is not as clear as could be wished. Isaak Walton cantered on the tan. Derritt made his first appearance with Luna and Eclipse, Xantippe being left in the stable till late in the day. Luna is looking very fresh, and moves nicely. She did no fast work, but Eclipse took Atlantic twice round tho outside at a fair pace. Mason and Goodman sent their Cup candidates, Oberon and Chancellor, with rugs on, about tho Cup distance. The pace was pretty fast at first, the preliminary round being done in 2 min. 10 secs., but they then eased off a little, and finished the two rounds in 4 min, 31 secs. Chancellor pulled up quite uurullled, but Oberon was blowing as if he had had quite enough ef it. Maligner was not out. Mr Gardner’s two - year • old, Amulet by Talisman from May Queen, appeared on the course, and being stripped, joined in with Unknown and Kildare, who had gono a mile and a half together at a rattling pace, and finished with them. The Champagne youngster seems rather flighty at present, but shows a good deal of quality. Wattie gave Cloth of Gold two rounds by himself at a fair pace, the chcsnut going very free. Quito a crowd of cross-country horses were out. Powell took Shillelagh three times round the tan and over the hurdles, which he cleared in good style. Starlight also worked on the tan, and Tom Cotton took Little Dan round three or four times and over the hurdles. Kildare and Eclipse worked as before-men-tioned. The last gallop of the morning was by Swede and the Virginia colt, who were stripped and sent a mile-and-a-half outside the hurdles. They negotiated the first round in 2min. Usee., and the colt gained numerous friends by his style of going. Ray told me that he has sold Danebux-y and Mufti to R. Bolton for £IOOO. Mufti won the big handicap at Wairarapa on the second day, Danebury running seconrl, Pegasus third.
