CHRISTCHURCH. Friday, February 15,
[Before G. L, Mellish, Esq, R.M., and Dr. Deamer, J.P.] Drunkenness. —Jane Kirk was fined 20s and Is cab biro. Henry Wallis was fined 20s. Rape. —Q.uamYam was charged on remand with an offence,of this nature committed at Onawn. Mr Joynt appeared for accused. Inspector Hickson told the Bench that lie had snbpoened a qualified interpreter from Southbridge, and now learnt for the first time that for private reasons he declined to act. Ho (Inspector Hickson) would have to ask for a further remand to enable him to get an interpreter from Dunedin. Remanded until 26th inst.
Assault. —Benjamin Monk was charged with assaulting James Barker. A cross action between the parties for using threatening language was heard at the same time. Tho evidence showed that defendant had struck complainant, but complainant bad first assaulted Mr Monk. The Bench dismissed the case against Monk, and fined Barker 20s and costs.
