MAGISTRATES' COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Thubsday, Febbuaby 14. [Before G. L. Mellisb, Esq, R.M.] Dbtokenness.—Three first offenders were each fined ss. A remanded charge of drunkenness against William Cody was called on. Inspector Hickson told the Bench that the accused was still in the Hospital suffering from an injury to his leg. He had mide enquiries, and learnt that the man was first seen by a cabman, who observed that his leg was hurt. While he was endeavoring to lift him into the cab he found that in addition to this injury the man was very drunk. The constable then came up, and seeing the state Cody was in he took him to tho depot. His object in making this explanation was to show that the man's leg was injured before the constable saw him. His Worship adjourned the case sine die. Fame Pbetences. —Thomas Foster, alias Roberts, charged with obtaining money and goods by false pretences, and also with larceny as bailee of a watch, was remanded to 21st instant, on the application of Inspector Hickson.
