>ROS P E C L OF THK CANTERBURY TRAMWAY COMPANY LIMITED. Incorporated under the Joint Stock Companies' Act. Capital : £50,000 ; with power to increase, in Shares of £5 each. Directors : J. E. Brown, Esq., Chairman. Hon. J. T. Peacock J. Ballantyne, Esq. C. W. Turner, Esq. R. Allan, Eaq. G. Coleman, Esq. J. G. Hawkes, Esq. Bankers: Bank of New Zealand. SouqiTOES : Messrs Garrick and Cowlishaw. Secretary : Josiah Birch. The Company is formed to construct and work Tramways, more especially in and about Christchurch. The Directors contemplate in the early stages of the Company constructing:— 1. A line from Papanui to Christchurch. 2. An extension of this line to the Christchurch Railway Station. 3. A branch to a Terminus south of the Agricultural Show Grounds. 4. A branch connecting Addington with the centre of Christchurch. 5. An extension to Heatbcote with a view ultimately of continuing the line to Sumner. The first four lines the Directors purpose constructing without any unnecessary delay, as they are satisfied the Tram Cars will become deservedly popular, and will speedily create a traffic which the Directors believe will prove fairly remunerative. The Directors have placed themselves in communication with the Christchurch City Council, the Sydenham Municipal Council, and the Avon Koad Board, from whom they have received assurances of goodwill to the undertaking, and with whom they hope to complete satisfactory arrangements The success which has attended tramways in various cities of Europe, and the United States of America, the rapidly increasing population of Christchurch and its suburbs, added to the level nature of the country, enable the Directors confidently to recommend the enterprise to the public, not only on account of the reasonable profits which may be expected to accrue, but also on the score of public convenience by additional facilities of communi'ation.
The Directors have purposely made the value of the shares low, in order that all classes of the community may participate in the benebts to be derived from this undertaking, ai d they do not anticipate calling up more than J& 10s per share. Forms of application may be obtained from the Secretary, to whom applicafci n* are to be addressed »nd forwarded not later than Thursday February 28th, 1878. A dep< sit of five shillings) per share to accompany each application, and five shillings per share to be paid on allotment.
