The German: barque August Friedrich, Captain Bruhu, from Now York, via Port Chalmers, with a cargo of machinery and Yankee notions, arrived at 4 p.m. yesterday, after a smart passage of twentyfour hours from Port Chalmers, a strong southerly breeze having prevailed throughout. The barque is a handsome vessel of 365 tons, and left New York on October 7th, arriving at Port Chalmers on January 15th; discharged part of her cargo there, anti left for this port at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, arriving as above. Amongst her cargo are two locomotives and fittings for the Government. Captain Cooper, of the brigantine Island Lily, a report of whose passage appeared in yesterday’s issue, reports speaking the barque Alaska, Captain Fisher, at Owcngo, Chatham Islands, on January 26th. They reported that since leaving the Bay of Islands last June they had taken 650 barrels of sperm and 140 do black oil, and also 65001 b whalebone. Captain Fisher reports the barque Triton, Captain Keith, as having taken 150 barrels this season. He also spoke the ship Splendid, of Dunedin, on January sth, which vessel had taken 200 barrels sperm oil since leaving Dunedin. The schooner Zior, Captain Bell, left Stewart’s Island on Thursday, January 31st. Had light N.E. wiuds, calms, and thick weather, which held till Tuesday. February sth, thence southerly winds till arrival in harbor at 1 p.m. yesterday. She brings a cargo of timber. A barqueutino from the ATauritins flying German colours, named the Holstein, and commanded by Captain Kulper, arrived yesterday evening. She has had a fine passage of 45 days, having left Port Louis on December' 23rd. The voyage has been a flue weather one, and no incident of any importance occurred. Dunedin Heads were passed yesterday, aucl a fresh southerly gale brought the vessel to her anchorage off the breakwater shortly before 5 p.m. The Holstein brings 250 tons of sugar, and is consigned to Edwards, Bennett and Co. The Queensland left Newcastle for this port on January 25th, and the Emperor on the 26th, We see by Wellington flies that the schooner Excelsior, now 25 days out, hound from Timaru to Wellington, has not yet arrived. Fears are entertained for her safety. The “ N.Z. Times ” states that Messrs Seager and Co., the owners of the s.s. Tui, intend shortly to call for tenders for the construction of a new steamer for the coastal trade. She is to he about fifteen feet longer than the Tui, of greater power and speed, and of stronger and heavier build.

The Wanaka sails South at 4 to-morrow. Port Chalmers, February C. Arrived—Barque John E. Stanhope from New York. She brings 200 tons of cargo for Dunedin, and 470 for Wellington. She made a passage of 111 days. Wellington, February 7. Arrived—Lorinda Borstel and C. A. Littlefield, from Lyttelton; Margaret Galbraith, from Glasgow and Loudon, having made the passage in eighty-live days from Loudon. Sho has two passengers and a full cargo.
