Peace preliminaries were signed on the 25th at the Russian head-quarters. However, it is believed that the British Ministry will persist in demanding a special vote. A portion of the French fleet has left Toulon for the Levant. Warlike demonstrations and rioting have taken place at Athens, in consequence of the approaching peace, without any concessions being made to Greece. January 28. The Russians are still advancing in the direction of Stamboul. Lord Derby has announced the withdrawal of his resignation. Sir Stafford Northcotc has moved for a special vote. He stated the Government were yet unaware of the terms of peace, beyond the basis sketched by Schouvaloff to Lord Derby. These involved interests of great magnitude. The occupation of Stamboul would seriously endanger the relations of England and Russia. The Sultan has authorised the British fleet to enter tho Hellespont. Sir Stafford Northcote severely condemned an agitation which will decrease the prestige and influence of England, and concluded by asking a vote of credit and confidence. The debato was adjourned till Thursday. The San Francisco mail has arrived. The Rev. Mr Staunton, of St. Giles', has accepted the Bishopric of Brisbane. INTERPROVINCIAL. [PEB 72BSS AGENCY.] Dtjnedin, February 4. Father Hennebery and Mr Charles Bright gave lectures last night to crowded houses. A crowd flocked to Hennebery Church at five and nine this morning. Nelson, February 4. The Nelson "Daily Times" ceased publication to-day.
