which previounl.v had a fairly firm tone, was completely unsettled by the auction sales this forenoon. Flour is quoted at £l2 15s, and althongh sales have also been made at, £l2 17s 6d, yet the first-named figure now appears to have bpeu accepted as the pi'ico of tho day. Wheat was disposed of publicly at a decline. Abom 100 bags were quitted at 5s 5d i and 5s 7d for medium to fine new, whilo 5s BJd was offered for a parcel of very fine old. Since then sales have been made privately at 5s 6d for new, but we know likewise that 5s 7d could have been got for considerable lines. The day's quotations may bo given at 5s 6d and 5s 7d. In addition to the ordinary trade domand, we understand that some large sales have of late been made for export, and with the decline in price now advised, a more extensivo business still is likely to be done in that direction. Oats are quoted at 4s lOd to 4s lid for fine samples, bnt the demand is not at all brisk. At auction, New Zealand fine feed sold at 4s lOd, and low to middling feeding were cleared off at 4s SJd to 4s 6d. Maize is quoted at Cs 3d. 1300 bags of New Zealand malting barley have been placed, on terms withheld. Tho public sale of sugar this forenoon created a good deal of interest, and attracted a large attendance. It was without question the boldest stroke of the season to offer two such large cargoes as those of the Messina and Sadie F. Caller at one and the same time. The result, however, speaks well for the judgment of the sellers, who secured an advance. 8190 bags and 4188 pockets, comprising nearly the entire quantity, were disposed of. "White crystals realised £35 15s to £36 10s; middling white, £35 ; brewing crystals, £33 10s to £34 10s ; fine yellow counters, £32 10s to £33 15s; middling yellows, £3l to £32 j soft medium counters, £29 10s to £3O ; low browns, £2B 10s to £29; and rations, £27 to £2B—prices which show an advgnce on last sale valuations of 10b to 15s on white, 10s to 15s advance on good grainy yellow, and 5s to 10s on middling grainy yellow. Soft yellow counters maintained last rates. The brewing had a good demand at fully up to last sale rates, and in some instances an advance of 10a was realised. On browns and rations
