CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE.

At the committee meeting held on Saturday there was a large attendance. Mr J. N. Tosswill moved, and Mr C. R. Leadley seconded—" That the secretary be requested to have publicity given in the Victorian, Sydney, Brisbane, and local papers, that weekly auction sales of grain and other produce will be held in connection with the Corn Exchange, and to make the necessary arrangements for carrying out the same." In the absence of Mr D. Patchett, Colonel Brett moved, and Mr C. R. Leadly seconded - " That the Corn Exchange be open for buyers and sellers every week day, from the hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., for the sale of grain and other produce, and that Saturday, between tho above hours, be established as the weekly market day." It was resolved, in the absence of Mr Henderson —"That tho notice standing in his name, respecting the sparrow nuisance, stand over until next meeting." Captain Willis moved, and Mr J. N. Tosswill secondod—" That the secretary be instructed to collect information from this province and the other Australasian colonies, respecting the railway traffic rates, &c , with a view of drawing up a memorial to tho head of the railway department, and pointing out the present defective and oppressive railway rates, irregularities, and general mis-manage-ment."

It was resolved that the Corn Exchange and Farmers' Club be incorporated under the Agricultural and Pastoral Societies Act, 1877, and that the secretary be instructed to apply to Messrs Hannier and Harper, solicitors, for the necessary information, and report to the next meeting. The following by-law was passed—" Should any dispute arise as to the sample of grain and other produce sold at the Corn Exchange, then, at the wish of the buyer and seller, a committee of reference consisting of four may be appointed out of the General Committee of the club, such committee of reference to have the power of nominating an umpire, and that all such reference shall be final, binding, and conclusive."

The foliowing members were added to the General Committee Messrs Peryman, Inwood, and Bailey. The secretary was instructed to obtain from the import markets reliable quotations of all kinds of grain and produce ; also to report to the local papers actual quotations of sales of grain and produce effected by tho members of the Corn Exchange from time to time for the guidance of the producers. Colonel Brett moved, and Mr J. N, Tosswill seconded—" That the secretary be requested to write to Mr W.
