DISQUALIFICATION OF FISHHOOK.

The following letter from the Hon. Mr Campbell, addressed to the Secretary of the North Otago Turf Club relative to the action of the club in removing the disqualification from Fishhook, has been handed to the “ Otago Daily Times ” for publication : Dunedin, January 17. The Secretary North Otago Turf Club, Oaraaru. Sir,—l have observed with very great regret the action taken by the committee of your club with respect to the removal of the disqualification on the horse “ Fishhook.” As one of the stewards present at the last Oamaru meeting, and as one whb assisted to place the disqualification on the horse, I beg to enter my protest against the action taken by your club. I also take this opportunity of asking the committee whether they consider the course adopted has been courteous to the stewards of the late meeting. So far as I know none of the stewards have ever received any intimation thut this matter was likely to be brought before the members of the club. The only ground upon which it appears to me the committee have based their reasons for removing the disqualification on Fishhook has been as follows O’Brien applies in forma pauperis, says lie lias lost a lot of money owing to the disqualification, and asks that the horse may be allowed to run at the next Oamaru meeting. This has been acceded to by the very clnb that asked all the other clubs to disqualify the horse. I decline to be a party to any such arrangement. The public have a right to ask that the money they subscribe to run for at race meetings shall be honestly run for, and they appoint stewards to protect their interests. I propose sending a copy of this letter to the “ Otago Daily Times ” and the “ North Otago Times.” I am, &c., Robeet Campbell.
