Macmahon has resigned his seat for West Melbourne in favor of Mr Francis, whose election is certain. The Governor has been presented with an address by the residents of Hamilton, expressing indignation at the illegal acts of the Ministry. The Governor defended his assent to the dismissals. He was bound to follow the advice of Ministers in local matters outside the prerogative of the Crown. The Government intend carrying out the County Courts by officials without salaries. INTERPROVINGTAL. [FEB PBBSB AGENCY.] Napieb, January 19. Mr Sutton addressed a crowded meeting of the electors of the Napier district in the Theatre Royal, which was crammed. Captain Russell was unable to be present, through illness. Mr Sutton was questioned at great length after the close of the address. The meeting was very lively. To a motion of a vote of thanks and confidence, an amendment was moved " Thai the thanks be accorded but the meeting declines to express its confidence." The amendment was declared lost, but there was a large number of hands held for it, and many thought it carried. When the original motion wag put it was carried by a large majority. The speeches were short and unimportant. The substance of Mr Taiaroa's remarks is that he has confidence in the policy of the present Government, and will support them unless his constituents generally think he should do otherwise. He would evidently also be in favour of a liberal system of education and of the extension of the franchise, as he said that as the Government ruled large and small, the poor man should have a share in making the Government.
