CHRISTCHURCfI. Saturday, January 19. (Before C. R. Blakiston, Esq., and Dr. Deamer, J.lVe.) Drunk and 1 )isorderly.— James Cotton was fined 10s; William Talbot, for being drunk and resisting the police, was fined 20s. A first offender was fined ss. Illegally on Premises.—John Jack, arrested for being found early that morning illegally on premises attached to the Dimedin billiard saloon, High street, was ordered to be imprisoned for forty-eight hours.

Forgery and Uttering.—Robert McFarlane was charged, on remand from Akaroa, with having forged and uttered on 27th December last a cheque on the Union Bank for £4 lis. Sergeant Morice asked tor a remand until Friday next, to enable the police to prepare the evidence. Remand granted as asked. Larceny.—Frederick Lane was charged on remand with having stolen a spade, potato fork, and "sieve, the property of Mr Worthy, of Christ's College When arrested by Detective Benjamin, accused admitted having sold a sieve to a Mr Smart, gardener in Mr Worthy's employ, and said he had pawned a fork and spade, but they were his own property. Smart sold the sieve to S. Jackman, and it was afterwards identified as the one which had been taken from the College premises. A spade sold by accused to G-. W. Dell was produced, but could not be identified. Smart, addressing the Bench, said Mr Worthy did not desire to press the charge, if accused could clear himself of the charge. [Laughter.] Accused said the detectives hud been watching him for a long time as he had beaten them in one case. Sentenced to one week's imprisonment with hard labor.
