The first meeting of the newly elected Timaru Harbor Board was held to-day. The report of the commission was considered, and the following important resolutions were passed “1. That an urgent request be sent by Ihe chairman to the Government, that they will give their sanction to having the Harbor Board works commenced at once, by allowing the Board to call for tenders for a solid mole of 300 ft., to commence from the shore on spot selected by the late Mr Balfour, this position being fixed upon by the Harbor Corn-in'-sion as the most suitable from which to commence operations.” “ 2. That the engineer be instructed to prepare specifications and call for tenders in alternative form, of solid blocks and of pierre perdu faced with concrete, and that he further be asked to provide in these specifications for accommodating vessels at as early a date as possible.” “y. That the chairman he requested to intimate to the Government that the Harbor Board consider a 30Uft. mole would be of great service to the Port of Timaru, and that the work would prove remunerative in proportion as it progresses.” “4. That the engineer be requested to report to the Board as soon as possible upon the plant and other requirements necessary for the Board to provide.” The tender of Messrs Guthrie and Larnach, of Dunedin, for 1000 tons of Portland cement, at £4 lb's 5d per ton, was accepted.
