ROAD BOARDS.
AVON. The Board met on January 9th. .Present —Mosers Wilson, Dickenson, Munro, and lladfield. Mr Wilson was unanimously elected chairman for the ensuing year. The surveyor’s report was read and considered. With respect to widening the road to New Brighton, the surveyor was instructed to obtain all the information on the subject with regard to the two lines, and lay particulars before the Board next meeting. With regard to the river road referred to by Mr Deßourbel, the clerk was instructed to write to him asking what the parties interested are willing to subscribe. Mr Me.Alpine saw the Board relative to road on section 6, and produced letter from Mr Slater stating that the dedication of the road was virtually completed. The surveyor was instructed to call for tenders for forming same. A letter was received from Mr Dunnage, asking the Board to form portion of road on section 150, leading to his property. A letter was received from Mr S. Murphy relative to rate notices received by him. The clerk to make enquiries about same. A letter was received from Mr Turner asking the Board to level the footpath in front of his store at the corner of North belt and Papanui road. The surveyor was instructed to see to the matter. Letter enclosing prospectus was received from secretary to the Tramway Company; also from Mr G. Lockhart upon the same subject. The clerk was instructed to acknowledge the receipt of Mr Lockhart’s letter, and state that the Board had a previous offer under con-
sideration. Reply to be sent to the secretary of the Tramway Company, appointing a meeting with them for the next meeting of the Board on January 27th. Complaint having been made by letter to the Board of an obstruction placed by Mr Bligh on Grigg’s road. The surveyor was instructed to cause the same to be removed, and in case of its again occurring to take action in the matter. Letter was received from Mr Strange relative to stagnant water on North town belt. Same to be forwarded to City Council, with a request that the same may be attended to. Letter was received from Mr Mitchell, notifying the Board of the unsafe state of the bridge leading to his farm. Complaint was made by Air C. Thomas, of the bad state of the drains on the North-cast belt. The same to he forwarded to the City Council. With regard to the widening of Crescent road, the surveyor was instructed to make enquiries and report next meeting. The clerk was instructed to write to the Railway manager, requesting him to have the railway gates by the Styx station widened, as at present they impede the traffic on the road. The surveyor was instructed to call tenders for forming road known as Green lane. The surveyor was instructed to direct the employees of tlie Board to impound cattle and horses found trespassing on the roads in the district. Accounts to the amount of £425 10s were passed, and ordered to be paid. The Board then adjourned. HEATHCOTE. The above Board held its regular meeting on Thursday, the 10th iustant, at the Board office. Present —Messrs W. Attwood, W. Hawker, and R. Clephane. Mr Attwood was elected Chairman for the ensuing year. The clerk reported the receipt of the following amounts : —General rate, 1877, £22 7s ; Waimakariri, £1 17a 3d ; drainage, £9 6s 3d, Court fees, 16s ; special rate, 6s 6d. Total, £34 13s. Bank balance to credit, £2125 15s 2d, The following correspondence was read and considered. From M. Kearney regarding road ; to be deferred till there is a full Board. Air R. Rose, the same. Sydenham Borough Council, asking that rates collected might be paid to their credit; consideration deferred. Thomas Alain declining to go on with contract. To be informed that if not gone on with at once, that tenders will be called for at his expense. Lyttelton and Heathcote Recreation Trust. The chairman to attend the meeting. Accounts amounting to £420 12s 3d were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned to Thursday, the 24th instant, at 2 p.m.
