MAGISTRATES' COURTS.
CHEISTCHUECH. Fkidat, January 11. TBefore G. L. Lee Esq. and Dr. Deamer, J.P.'s.] Drunk and Disorderly. Christena Clegg, arrested for drunkenness, and who was still suffering from its effects, was remanded to Addington for a week.—Alexander McGilvray, for being drunk and breaking a pane of glass in a cab, was fined 10s, 8s 6A amount of damage done, and 5s expenses of witness William Thompson was fined ss; George Brown ss; and Henry Williams, remanded from the previous day, and whom it was shown had been drinking about, and leading a vagrant life, was sent to gaol for one month, with hard labor. Larceny.—Frank Liddiard was charged with stealing a cucumber from the shop of J. Nancarrow, Colombo street. The prosecutor had been told that accused had taken the cucumber from the stand in front of the window, and on following him up he found it in his hand. The cucumber was identified by Mr Nancarrow as one he had placed in the window during the morning. Accused was under the influence of drink at the time, and the prosecutor did not desire to press the charge. In reply to the Bench, accused expressed his regret at what he had done, and said he did not know what he was doing at the time. His Worship said that under the circumstances accused would be sentenced to 24 hours' imprisonment. Absenting Himself prom Service. — David Findlay was charged on warrant with having absented himself from his master without leave. Accused had been indentured to A. Walker in 1876. He absented himself in April last, 1877, but since that time had gone to the prosecutor, who would not, however, take him back until the matter had been settled in Court. On the application of Mr Loughnan, who appeared for the accused, a remand was granted until Tuesday, bail being allowed in one surety of £lO. LYTTELTON. Friday, January 11. [Before W. Donald, Esq., E.M., and T. E. Potts, H. E. Webb, and J. T. Bouse, Fsqs., J.Ps.] LUNACY from Drink.—Michael O'Eourke was dismissed, having fully recovered. Breach or Pubmc House Ordinance. John S. Camerpri, licensee of f,ho Mitre Hotel, was chargec] with keeping his house ppen during prohibited hours on the s,th of January.—Mr H. N. Nalder appeared for the defence. —It appeared, from the evidence, that peyeral residpntp had stopped, talking, in the comraei'cial room till half-past eleven on the Saturday night in question, but that the bar was closed and also the outer door, and that no drinks were Berved.—The case was dismissed.
