The revenue collected at the Customs on Friday, January 4th, amounted to £942 9s sd. The following are the items:—Wises and spirits, £327 Ob lid • ale, £lO 5s s bitters, £5 2s 9d; sarsapanlla, £3 4s • cigars, £96 10s lid: 15 bacco, £BB ss; tea, £llO lis 6d: sugar, £242 12s; cocoa. £6 ss; candles, £lO 8s 4d j drapery, £37: sundries, £5 4s. LIVE STOCK MARKET. Messrs Clifford and Co., Cashel street, report ou their usual weekly sale, January sth, as follows : Cattle—Milch cows and springers, about* 15 head yarded: buyers backward, and no transactions of any note to record ; calves, 18s to 30s, few in market, and good prices still obtainable for what is offered. Pigs—The amount of stock offering is still small, and no change note in prices ; vendors careless about bringing their stock forward, on account of tho extremely low figure ruling. Poultry, per pair, fowls, 3et0486d; ducks, 4s 3d to ss; geese, inferior, 7s to 9s; turkeys, & win market, prices 7s to 15s, for a poor class of birae. Fair attendance at all the sales throughout the day. MELBOURNE MARKETS. By the Tararua we have Melbourne papers to December 24th. Maize, which was yesterday sold at 5s 6'd, was, before the day was over, disposed of at 5s 9d, and this figure is now quoted; hut there is no stock on hand, and only the most trifling business can be reported. Sugars are steady, though after recent sales buyers are not over anxious to operate. A parcel ot 500 nuits of Java has, however, been placed at a satisfactory figure; 1100 bags Mauritius have also been sold at £33 to £35. article largely consumed by all the brewers. Further sales of John Boss and Co.'s whisky are reported at close ou 4s 6d, a figure now generally in-iked. The copy of a telegram received this morning, dated London, 20th December, has been sent To ns for publication, which states :—" Hennessy lias not quoted new vintage; other prices maintained;" and our informant goes on to say, " From the above I infer, according to my code, that Otard has not opened his prices for new brandy, as currently reported in this market.
