The Sultan has solicited the mediation of the British Government with the Emperor of of Russia, and England has consented. London, December 2S. After two days’ hard fighting, the Servians captured Pivot. Mukhtar Pasha has gone to Ersumjian, leaving Ismail Pasha in command at Erzeroum, which is now nearly invested. At an anti-Russian meeting in Trafalgar square there were riotous proceedings, the pro-Russians interfering and tearing the Turkish flag down. The “Whitehall Review” states that the Premier intends proposing to Parliament to accept the suzerainty of Egypt, with the Sultan’s and Khedive’s consent. The Austrian reply to the Turkish note intimates that she will only permit Russia to conclude peace on (he basis of the Treaty of Paris. She will not sanction the dismemberment of Turkey, nor allow tbs Black Sea Ic beaejss a Russia lake.
