POST OFFICE NOTICES
Mails close at tae Chief Post Office for the following plaaes as under, subject to necessary alterations THIS DAY. For Southern ports, per Wauaka, at 8 p.m. For local Northern and Southern offices at 8 p.m. TUESDAY, Ist JANUARY, 1878. This day being a Post-office holiday all branches of the office will be closed. The Wauaka, with the British mails via San Francisco, is expected to arrive in Lyttelton during the evening of this day (Tuesday), and the mails will be immediately sorted. Box-holders can obtain their correspondence in the usual manner, and residents of the city will please apply to the clerk in attendance at the delivery window, who will deliver after the latter portion of the mail is sorted. WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 2kd. For Southern ports, overland, at 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. For Northern ports, per Taupo, at 1.50 p.m.; late letters, 2.10 p.m. The next English mail, via San Francisco, will close at Christchurch, Friday, the 4th proximo, at 1 p.m. SYDNEY J, DICK, Chief Postmaster.
