POST OFFICE NOTICES.

Mails close at the Chief Post Office for the following places as under, subject to necessary alterations: — MONDAY, DECEMBER 31. For Otago, overland, at 6 a.in. For Chatham Islands, per Island Lily, at 9.30 a.m. For Wellington and Westport, per Grafton, at 3 p.m.; late letters, 3.20 pan.; railway station, per 4 pan, train. Important. —Tuesday, January Ist, being a Post Office holiday, all branches of the Christchurch Office will be closed. Should the Wanaka with the English mail via San Francisco arrive at Lyttelton New Year’s Day, special arrangements for sorting will he made and announced in the “ Globe ” and “ Star ” Monday afternoon. All local mails usually closed Tuesday morning will be made up ,for despatch on Monday, 31st instant, at 8 p.m. The next English mail, via San Francisco, will close at Christchurch Friday, the 4th proximo, at 1 p.m, SYDNEY J. DICK. Chief Postmaster.
