ROAD BOARDS.

. <& AVON. This Board met on Tuesday, December 18th. Present the chairman and all the members. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The surveyor's report was read and considered. Mrs Brown saw the Board relative to her rates, and was informed that the Board concurred with the arrangement made by the collector. With regard to shingle reserve for North road above Styx, the surveyor was instructed to make inquiries. Messrs Elesher and Hadfield interviewed the Board relative to widening the Stanmorc and North Avon road The surveyor was instructed to make inquiries with respect to same, and report at next meeting. The surveyor was instructed to put in pipes in place of bridge on Stanmore road if thought advisable. With regard to forming Green's lane decision was deferred until the next meeting of the Board. Mr Hughes saw the Board and asked them to make the, culvert at the entrance to Victoria street the whole width of the road. The clerk was instructed to write to the City Council upon the subject. Application was received from Mr Quarleys for leave to take earth from Hill's road. The application was not granted, as the Board will require the earth. The surveyor was instructed to see to the road by the New Brighton Hotel. Letters were received from the engineer to the Drainage Board, asking the Avon Board to take up the brick culvert on "Kelly's road, and either make a larger one or substitute a bridge. Mr Bell to be informed that the Board decline to interfere in the matter. Also asking the Board to deepen the Canal reserve drain from the drainage boundary to the Styx. To be informed that this Board does not recognise that it is their duty to carry on any drain for Drainage Board to its necessary outfall, and do not therefore propose to deepen the drain referred to. Letter was received from residents on road section 1048 asking the Board to form the road. To be informed that upon the road being dedicated it will be formed upon the residents paying half cost of formation. Letter was received from Mr De Bourbel relative to forming road by Avon. The surveyor was instructed to obtain particulars as to cost by next meeting. Account was received from Riccarton Road Board for half cost of forming footpath Harewood road. The clerk was instructed to answer referring them to former letter upon the subject. Accounts to the amount of .£606 18s 7d were passed, and ordered to be paid. HEATHCOTE. The above Board met on Thursday, the 20th instant. Present —Messrs S. Manning (chairman), W. Attwood, W. Hawker, and F. Jones. The clei-k reported the receipts for the fortnight to be £92 14s 5d from all sources. The works committee reported on the various matters referred o them, and their report was adopted. The following correspondence was read and considered : —From General Crown Lands office, Wellington, re obstructions on a public road at Sumner. The clerk was instructed to give Mr Bose notice to remove same forthwith. Christchurch City Council re subsidy for employment of those wanting work in August last. To be acknowledged. A. Appleby, Esq., re calling for tenders to form and clay Nayland street. Tenders were called for. Murray-Aynsley, Esq., M.H.R., re land fund. To be acknowledged with thanks. W. T. Mitchell, asking that a road might be made to his place and a bridge placed over outfall drain. Clerk to forward copy to Drainage Board. Sydenham Borough Council re Wilson and Ferry road. A statement having appeared in the public prints that this Board had received money to shingle the streets in Waltham, and had not done it, the members all denied that such was the.case, the money was received to form the roads, which had been done. Messrs W. Langdown and F. Jones tendered their resignation as members of the Board, which were received with very great regret, and it was resolved to place on record th«>"--nreciation of the Board for the services they have rendered to the Board and the district generally. Accounts amounting to .£543 9s lid were passed for payment, and the Board then adjourned. _^___^______^__
