ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

A meeting of the Council of the Acclimatisation Society was held at Radcliffe's Hotel yesterday. Present —Sir Cracroft Wilson (in the chair) Messrs Boys, Jameson, J. R. Hill, Blakiston.

A letter was read from the Auckland Society, respecting the salmon ova, stating that some mistake had occurred as regarded it, and that the society would be refunded the £SO which it had contributed.

A letter was read from Mr Craig, San Francisco, enclosing a letter from the United States Eish Commission as to the transmission of brook trout to New Zealand, and stating that they would be prepared to send any quantity of ova in the season. A letter was read from the Melbourne Society, stating that they were not in a position to say where the Christchurch Society could obtain deer. In answer to a question as to the fruiteating propensity of the Indian minah, the reply was in the affirmative. A letter was read from Mr Head, stating that he had shot a black shag with a trout seven inches long in him. A letter, covering a Bank draft for £SO, was read from the Auckland Society, being the return of the contribution of the Christchurch Society for the salmon ova from California. The Council then considered the question of the distribution of the American salmon. In answer to Mr Boys, Mr Farr stated that 40,000 had been hatched out. It was determined, after some discussion, to put the (ish into the following rivers : Waimakariri (north branch), 10,000; Rangitata, 10,000 ; Hurunui, 7500 ; Avon, 5000. The meeting, after settling some details as the turning out of the fish, adjourned.
