GRAND LODGE OF GOOD TEMPLARS.
Wednesday, Decembeb 12. The following officers were installed : Bro. J. W. Jago, G.W.C. Templar ; Bro. A.. C. Price, G.W. Counsellor; Bro. ThomasSmith, G.W.V. Templar; Bro. D. C. Cameron r G.W. Secretary; Bro. W. Carr, G.W.T. ? Bro. Rev. T. E. Ash, G. Chaplain ; Bro. H. W. Sandel, G. Marshal; Bro. D. Gilbert, G„ Guard ; Bro. W. H. Clements, G. Sentinel ; Bro. F. Buckland, A.G. Secretary; Sister E. Price, D.G. Marshall; Bro. W. Rent, G. Messenger. Resolved—" That the thanks of the Grand Lodge be conveyed to Bros. Greig, Monson, and Phillips for their services in the installation of officers." The brethren briefly responded. Resolved—" That the thanks of the Lodge be conveyed to Bros. Reid and Cargill, who acted as scrutineers." Resolved. —"That the best thanks of the Lodge barecorded to the retiring officers —District,. Lodfre, and Special deputies—for their valuable services during the year." The secretary read a letter from the Good Hope Lodge, ' Temuka, asking the Grand Lodgeofficers, and the Hon. W. Fox, to favor them, with their presence at a public meeting to be held on Thursday evening. Resolved—" That the letter be received and recommended to the attention of those members who can make it convenient to attend." The report of the Grand Political Counsellor was then considered and adopted. The G.W.C.T. called for nominations for the office of BecKseatetiv© to thp W.G-. liodga,
to be held at Sydney. Eesolved—" That the number of representatives be three, and should any vacancies occur, that they be filled up by the next highest on tho poll." The ballot was taken with the following result, viz., Bros. J. W. Jago, W. Hislop, and E. Greig, were declared elected representatives, and Bros. H. Bennetts, D C. Cameron, and Connelly, were elected alternate representatives. The G.W.C.T. called for nominations for the office of P.W.G.C. There being but one nomination, the G-.M. was instructed to cast the ballot, and the Eev T. E. Ash, G.C., was declared duly elected. Eesolved—"That the appointment of Lecturer be remitted to the W.G. Lodge at its first session. The Credentials Committee reported having examined the credentials of the following Brethren, and recommended them as eligible to receive the G.L. Degree:— Welcome Eetreat—Bros. G-. Ward, J. D. Gore, and J. Williams. Good Hope Bros. H. Hallen, William Maslin, and C. Mollion. The degree was conferred accordingly. The committee appointed to consider a statement by Bro. W. Trumble, respecting his services as Grand Lodge Lecturer, beg to report "that they have fully investigated those statements, and having taken evidence thereon, beg to report that they consider Bro. Trumble has performed the duties pertaining to the office in a most satisfactory manner, and recommend that this Grand Lodge record on its minutes a special vote of thanks to him for his services." Carried. Bro. Sandel stated that he had been requested by the lodges in his district to convey to the G-.W.C.T. the hearty thanks of the Hokitika district for the valuable assistance rendered to the cause in that district by his visit there last year. Eesolved—" That the salary of the Grand Worthy Secretary be £2OO per annum." The Credentials Committee reported having examined the credentials of the following members—viz., Alexandra Lodge, No. 24 Sister Anderson, Bro. Anderson, Sister C. Hitch ; and recommended that the Grand Lodge Degree be conferred upon them. The Degree was conferred accordingly. Eesolved —" That the Grand Lodge recommend the executive to arrange with the D.D.'s. so that various ministers of the Gospel in their respective districts be requested to preach temperance sermons on a Sunday to be arranged." Eesolved—" That the thanks of the Grand Lodge be accorded to Bro. the Hon. W. Fox, Mr Eobert Stout, the Hon. Mr Stafford, and Mr E. Wakefield, and other representatives for the very able and determined stand they took at the last meeting of the House of Eepresentatives in support of the Local Option Bill, and further that the Grand Lodge pledges itself to support these gentlemen in any way and every manner that is in their power towards the securing of such measures as will tend to give the people the right to deal with the liquor traffic." Resolved—" That a copy of this resolution be forwarded by the G.W. Secretary to each member of the House of Eepresentatives who voted for the Bill at its second reading. After singing the closing ode, prayer was offered by the G-.W.C, and the Grand Lodge was closed.
