TWENTY-SEVENTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE PROVINCE OF CANTERBURY.
The anniversary of the province is again being celebrated to-day in the usual manner. There are the sports in Latimer squares which are, as on former years, largely attended. In addition there are a large number of excursions and pic-nics, and, in connection with the Temperance movement, a tea and public meeting was to be held in St. John's Schoolroom this afternoon, when the Hon. W. Fox was expected to address those present. In the evening there will be the torchlight procession of the Fre Brigade, for which great preparations are being made.
