PARLIAMENTARY INCIDENTS.
[FROM THE CORRESPONDENT OP THE X’BESS. ] The slaughter among Bills has already commenced. The Sheep and Cattle Bill and Charitable Institutions Bill were discharged to-day. The Government Bills arc not yet brought down. There is likely to be opposition over the Loan Bill. It is suspected that this and the Land Bill are kept back until the end of the session to avoid opposition and to rush the Bills through. Mr Larnach is so ill that the doctors have advised a cessation of work. This may cause his early retirement and the promotion of Mr Montgomery to the Treasurership. The vote for Sir Julius Vogel last night was opposed by Mr Sheehan, the Minister in charge of the estimates, who moved that it should be struck out, but that was defeated by a majority of ten.
[PEE PEEBB AO-ENCr.] Owing to Mr Larnach’s continued indisposition, it is understood that his medical advisers have recommended him to abstain from all official duties for some months. In consequence of this advice, it is understood that Mr Larnach will resign, and that either Mr Montgomery or Mr Ballance will he the new Treasurer, both being spoken of as likely for the office. Mr John Evans Brown, it is stated, will he appointed Minister for Public Works. In the Legislative Council last night Colonel Whitmore moved formally, and it was agreed to on a division by a majority of three —“That the Council should not insist upon its amendments in the Education Bill. > ’
