MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday, November 32. [Before Q-. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.] Drunk and Disorderly.—C. T. Cockrill, charged with drunkenness, was fined 40s. An inebriate who appeared for the first time, and still suffering from the effects of drink, was remanded to Lyttelton for a week for medical treatment. Francis South, charged with being drunk and using obscene language, was sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment with hard labor.
Embezzlement. —Arthur von Boelnitz, late curator to the Acclimatisation Society, was charged on warrant with having embezzled two sums of £2 each belonging to that society. Mr Buckley told his Worship that there were several charges to be brought against accused. Mr Harper had been retained by the Acclimatisation Society to prosecute, and it was desired that accused be remanded until Monday next, to enable evidence to be prepared. In reply to the Bench, accused said he would like the case to be adjourned, to enable him to see a solicitor. He wished also to make application for bail. His Worship said he would adjourn the case until the 26th instant, bail to be allowed in two sureties of £75.
