MR. LAYARD.

To the Editor of the Globe.

Sik, —Is it profound historical scholarship, or is it only “ slovenly omniscience” which caused the insertion —apropos of nothing in particular—of a long life of Mr Layard, H.B.M.’s Ambassador to Turkey in your Cathedral square contemporary’s issue of yesterday ? Rerhaps his feelings would not be too much lacerated to reply if I were to ask him just two questions ; 1. What is the difference, if any, between an ambassador and an attache ? 2. What is the date of his edition of “Men of the Times ” which represents a man well known to have for some years past represented the British Court at Madrid, and to have been transferred from thence direct to Constantinople as a member of the existing House of Commons ? I am, &e., Blue Devils. November 20tb.
