WESLEYAN DISTRICT MEETING.
The annua] meeting commenced yesterday at 11 a.m. in the schoolroom of the Durham street Church, The ministers present wore—the Revs. J. Crump (chairman), J. Aldred, W. Morley, J. S. Smalley, W. Worker, W. Leo, W. Cannell, G. Bond, W. 0. Oliver, J. A. Taylor, W. B. Martin, W. H. Beck, P. W. Fairclough, J. A. Luxford, Henry Ellis, and Te Kote, Native minister. The Rev. J. Aldred was elected secretary. The hours of session w-ere fixed from 10 a.m. to 1.15 p.m. and from 3 to 5 p.m It was announced that the financial business would he taken on Thursday next, at 11 a.m.
On the reading of the roll of names with the usual questions as to their character and orthodoxy, no objection was taken to any of the ministers, but the death of the Rev. J. W. Wallis was reported. The Revs. W. Morley, J. Aldrcd, and the chairman spoke in highly eulogistic terms of Mr Wallis’s character and work. The Rev. To Koto presented the report of his work among the Maoris of this province, which showed a satisfactory attendance at religious services, but an unwillingness to contribute towards the support of the ministry. On the motion of the Rev. W. Lee, seconded by the Rev. W. Morley, thro Rev. J. Aldred and the chairman were appointed a deputation to visit the natives, and urge upon them the duty of giving. At the afternoon session, the case of Mr Wills, a candidate for the Ministry who came recommended by the Springston quarterly meeting was considered. Mr Wills was directed to present himself on Wednesday morning for oral ex nation, and afterwards to take the usual ..uerary and theological papers. The Rev. W. Marten having visited the Chertsey and Rakaia districts, and collected satisfactory statistics, it was resolved, on the motion of the Rev. W. Morley, seconded by the Rev. W. Lee, that the Conference be recommended to appoint a minister, the station to be called the Chertsey and Rakaia Circuit.
