CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, November 20. [Before G. L. Hellish, Esq., R.M.] Drunk and Disorderly. —Mary Brown was fined 10s, and Chas. T. Cockville 20s; Hugh Young, for being drunk and using obscene language, was fined 20s. A first offender was fined ss.

Wife Desertion.- John Nixon, arrested at; Oaraaru, was charged on warrant with having deserted his wife. At the request of Mrs Nixon his Worship allowed the charge to be withdrawn.

[Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M., and J. T. Rouse, Esq., J.P.J

Absent Without Lea ve. —Matthew Nelson, of the Island Lily, was ordered on board.

Drunk and Disorderly. —George Wilson was sentenced to forty-eight hours’ imprisonment.

Larceny. —G. Wilson was further charged with the larceny of two numbers of the “ Illustrated London News” from the Albion Hotel. The offence was proved, and lie was sentenced to another forty-eight hours’ for this offence.

Assault. —W. Morton was charged by E. Docherty with assaulting him at Mr D. Gebbie’s, Head of the Bay, on November sth. Mr H. N. Nalder appeared for the prosecutor. Accused was fined 40s, and costs 7s6d; professional fee, 21s; witnesses’ expenses, 50s. Abusive Language. —Mrs Treherne was accused, by William Kelly, of this offence. Mr H. N. Nalder for the defence. William Kelly staled that on Monday week Mrs Treherne used most obscene language to him, describing himself, his wife, and daughter, in the most disgusting manner. It appeared from the evidence that anonymous letters had been received by Mrs Treherne, with the evident intention of creating a disturbance between him and his wife. There was a crosssummons charging Kelly with abusing Mrs Treherne. The Bench bound over both parties to keep the peace. Assault.— Wm. Christie, boatswain of the Empress of China, was charged by a seaman named Frost with the above offence. Mr H. N. Nalder appeared for complainant. Ac* cuisd wm 10a, and cc#ts BM*
