Gisborne, November 17. The total loss by the fire is estimated at £15,000. Wellington, November 17.
The Zealandia sailed at 3 pm. yesterday from Sidney, for Auckland, Honolulu, and San Francisco, with the outward mails. Alarm op Fire. —About seven o’clock tins morning the fire-bells were rung, and the brigade began to muster. The caum of the alarm was a chimney on fire in Bath street, off Colombo street. Dunedin, November 17. At the adjourned inquiry touching the death of Ann Harper, the medical evidence attributed death to a blow on the head with a weapon. It could not have resulted from a fall. In the deceased’s house the police found an iron weapon on which were several hairs. The room jwas saturated with blood. The jury returned a verdict of “Manslaughter” against the husband. The total contributions to the famine fund to date are £3Bll.
