YESTERDAY'S TELEGRAMS
INTEEPEOVINCIAL. [PBB PRESS AGENCY.] Auckland, November 12. 11 appears from private telegrams received in town that on Wednesday last a largo party of Natives drove a number of cattle from Purkiss's land on the south side of the Moanntatu Swamp, and took them over the Punui into the King Country. Apparently the act baa not been authorised by the chiefs of the King party, for a telegram received yesterday stated that 170 cattle had been brought back. It is believed that the restitution was made by order of Ivcwi, but upon this point, and also as to what caused the Natives to take such a course, information has nob been received. The land from which the cattle were driven is not a part of the confiscated territory, but is land purchased or leased from the Government, and the only explanation which can be given of the a flair is that some party of natives mean to set up a claim to the land on tho ground that it has been improperly passed through the Court, and that some who claim to be owners have not been dealt with. Several charges of fraudulent bankruptcy i and concealing estate in connection with his !'■ late bankruptcy were preferred at the Police Court to-day against H. S. Meyers.
