MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday, November 1. [Before GK L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.J False Pretences. —In the case of Louis Pierre Dugleaux, charged with obtaining money on false pretences at Masterton, Inspector Buckley stated that ehe warrant, against the man had been received. Dugleaux was accordingly remanded to Masterton, to be brought up there on the 9th inst. Deserting Wife. —Job Hands, on an adjourned summons, appeared to answer to this charge. The wife was called, and deposed that sho had found out that she had made a mistake in giving her evidence previously. Her daughter had been to her father, but denied that sho had received the £1 as stated by witnesses. The daughter was placed in the box, and said sho forgot that she had been to her father on that occasion, but denied that sho had ever received £l. The Bench severely reprimanded her, and felt some difficulty in not ordering an information, for perjury to be laid against her, as it was. evident she was not speaking the truth. Thficaee against Hands was dismissed.
