<j> THE METROPOLITAN MEETING-. The following handicaps were posted at Radcliffe’s Hotel last evening:—

Henry P. Lance, Handicapper. Acceptances for both the above races must bo forwarded to the secretary before 8 p.m. on Thursday, November Ist. THE CESAEEWITCH STAKES. The name of the winner of this important English handicap was telegraphed by cable in such a confused form, that it could only be guessed at. The solution seems to be that the abbreviation “Hep” for “handicap” was mis-written “ Reh ” and that this was prefixed to the name “ Hilarious,” the name of one of the horses which ran. Out of the

141 subscribers, 25 started. The course is at Newmarket; the distance being 2 miles 2 furlongs and 28 yards. Up to the last year there had never been any added money, the sweep of 25 sovs each being considered sufficient, but we believe that an alteration has been made, and that 300 sovs are now added. Of this fact, however, we cannot speak positively. The race being one of the two best great handicaps of England, is always looked forward to with particular interest. The only handicap race which excites equal interest is the Cambridgeshire, the distance in which is It miles. The name of the second horse in the Cesarewitch race is distinct enough. Belphocbo is the property of Lord Hartiugton, and is by Toxopholito out of Yaga. Belpheebe has been remarkably successful during the racing season, carrying off the One Thousand Guinea Stakes, and running second in several important events. He is only a three-year-old, and is likely to make his mark on the English turf. The following are the names of the horses entered in the race whose names begin with the letter R, which was the first letter in the name as telegraphed :—Rabagas 11., Rob Roy, Roseberry, Restorative, Roi de la Montague, Rascal, Redoubt, Rhidor-rock, Rowlston.
