CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday, Octobee 31. [Before Q-. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.] Drunkenness. —John O’Brien was fined 10s; Samuel Dobenson, drunk while in charge of a horse and cart, 20s; Alexander Wright, 20s; Francis South, alias Smith, was sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment with hard labor. The man said he had only been released from the Hospital last Monday. The Magistrate remarked that South, when recently before the Court, had promised to clear out for San Francisco. He replied that the money had come only yesterday. When sentence was pronounced South said—“ Thank you; pity you didn’t give Needham that.” His Worship ordered the man to be detained till the rising of the Court. When the Court rose he was brought up for contempt, but on making an apology the Bench decided not to proceed against him, John Wright, for drunkenness, wa» fined 20s. Breaking into Dwelling, Robert Tindall was charged with breaking into the dwelling house of William Smith, Lincoln road, and with stealing therefrom a quantity of tea and sugar, valued at 4s. The man said he was so drunk at the time that he didn’t know what he was doing. He did not mean any harm, and was very sorry for it. The Court remarked that that was not the first time the accused had been convicted of larceny, and he would be sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. LYTTELTON. Wednesday, October 31. [Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M.] Drunk and Disorderly. —Peter Walsh, arrested by Constable Bullen, charged with the above, was fined 10s. Civil Cases. —Beaton v. Forbes, claim £59 11s 8d; Mr Nalder for defendant; judgment for defendant, the plaintiff not appearing. Parkinson and Co. v. Collins, claim £4 19s ; Mr Nalder for plaintiff; judgment for plaintiff; costs 9s, solicitor’s fee 21s. Kruner v. Rar, claim £l6 7s 7d ; Mr Nalder for defendant; case to stand over until sth December. Ifwerson v. Mold, claim £5 10s ; Mr Nalder for plaintiff; judgment for amount claimed ; costs 14s, solicitor’s fee, 21s.
