Grey said the Government would during the recess earnestly consider the question of restoring the police of the South Island to their former status as peace officers. DISQUALIFICATION ACT, In reply to Mr Sutton, Sir G. Grey said the Government intended to introduce a Bill to amend the Disqualification Act, NEW BILLS, Peninsula County Bill (Seaton), Canterbury Railways Land Reservation Bill (Montgomery), Disqualification Bill (Kelly), Taranaki County Reserves Bill (Kelly), Mount Cook Road District Rill (Teschemaker). BILLS READ. The Volunteer and other Land Bill, Kaiapoi Native Reserves Bill, Himatanga Compensation Bill, were read a third time and passed. The Sharebrokers Act Repeal Bill was discharged. SOUTH RAKAIA ROAD BOARD. On the motion for going into Committee on the South Rakaia Road Bill, No. 2, Mr Murray-Aynsley moved that it be committed that day three months. Mr Rolleston and Mr Evans Brown supported the Bill. Mr Wason opposed it. The motion for going into Committee at once was negatived by 31 to 28. Mr Rees then moved that it be committed to-morrow. The discussion was proceeding when the House rose for dinner. Evening Sitting. MOTION OF NO CONFIDENCE. Major Atkinson has just intimated that ho will, to-morrow, give notice of a vote of want of confidence, and has moved that the House adjourn. He complained of the delay in going on with the Land Bill. Mr Sheehan, in replying on the motion for adjournment—which was negatived —said it was better to go on with the business. If the present Ministry remained in office, the Land Bill would pass this session. If they were to die, they would die fighting.
